People often cling to their idea of a just world. They want to believe bad things only happen to bad people. Or we must be paranoid and crazy and it didn't really happen. We misjudged the situation. We imagined it etc. When they hear our stories, it must make them feel very vulnerable or, perhaps, guilty.

It has been my experience that it can be very difficult for people to relate to and understand what they do not experience themselves.

In my case, many people do not even want to accept that what I have experienced even happens. Shoot, it has been a difficult road accepting it myself! That is one reason why I tend to shy away from revealing that part of my history. Yet, I long for authenticity! Little by little, I learn what I can share and with whom. I want transparency, but I don't want to get beat up in the process. I have been beat up enough in life.

Personally, I think you are very brave to have written this book. Actually, you are even braver for having actually published it!

I notice that you are looking to write a book about Dr. Howard. I look forward to seeing that some day.
From what I read of him in your book, he was an outstanding and very compassionate man.
