Yes, we all need him. Good times and bad. Mankind sinks easily into sin and despair. It is only with God’s help can we achieve holiness.

it is nice to imagine God sheltering us, doesn’t the bible refer to God as a shield and a fortress? I often feel that in this world what needs protecting most cannot be protected by metal or concrete, or weapons of an army. the souls innocence cannot be. only Gods grace can be a protection against so many things that assail ones faith. There is injustice, cruelty and corruption and they cause hatred and fear. Lots of times i pray for the world, for people who are underprivledged, for those who are lonely in their pain. those who hurt or kill for reasons too of pain or anger. God must certainly know that his creation is anything but perfect, that we all need him.

Thanks sissy for your thoughtful comment. I think it is wonderful that you have conversations with God sharing with Him your happiness and your disappointments. When I pray I try to imagine God sheltering me, helping me, advising me. I try never to ask for anything other than guidance. If I ask Him to bless a family member or friend, I also ask Him to bless the whole world. I don’t think my loved ones are any more deserving than other people’s loved ones.

i think it wrong to assume that a change of outcomes is the purpose of prayer. It may be that outward things need less changing then my own convictions or attitudes….prayer is more than a form of asking what we want or need from God. I very often at the end of the day hold conversations with God, I tell him what made me happy, my dissappointments, if i got angry….and if i want to stay mad, my prayer is a conversation with the Lord. My one true companion, can I hide my weaknesses from him? I don’t try. I need help sometimes and i say so, or at least i know i express it. I tell him about the things that make me happy, playin my guitar, baking cookies and i truly think in those small things that made me happy, God is pleased.
