ibc, I wish to make two points.

First, it would be intolerant and counterproductive to shun someone for expressing discomfort with having a black minister. Instead, a dialogue would be more appropriate. Martin Luther King Jr. on several occasions went and spoke with people you would consider bigots. Calling someone a bigot is using name calling to shut down discussion and does nothing to further your position.

Second, race is a static physical trait that an individual is clearly born with. Homosexuality despite what you may have read is NOT genetically determined. Instead it is a sexual behavior that you can choose to engage in or not. All of us get to choose who we want to sleep with and when.

In 1993 the UU congregation I belonged to called a black man to be our minister. When I expressed some discomfort with the choice I was shunned and called a bigot. Disillusioned I left. UU’s weren’t as open and tolerant as I thought they were.
